Hi!
Welcome to my website. I'm Bob Langlie and I am a Producer, Recording Engineer, and Musician from the SF Bay Area currently living in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle.
Starting with my first public performance in a garage band in El Cerrito at the age of 11, I've been working in some form of the music business in and around the SF Bay Area my whole life.
When I was in the 4th grade my best friend and I decided that we should take advantage of elementary school music instruction. This was back in the day when there were fairly well funded music programs in the public school system. I know...hard to believe. Hell, they even provided the instruments! I got a beat up old alto sax, and Rob, my partner in crime, got a snare drum. Man, we made some ugly noise. But Mr. Shuester, our music teacher, was a very patient man and provided a quality musical foundation for us kids.
From there Rob and I grabbed some neighborhood friends and played in a host of garage bands finally ending up in a local East Bay bar band called "The Blue Sky Band" while in high school and college. Believe it or not, these lasting friendships continue to this day with 5 of the original members, as we continue to get together just playing for fun, or occasionally playing out at a club for friends and family.
After college I stayed in the south bay and started a commercial multitrack recording studio called "Dusk Recording Studios" in Santa Clara. I recorded local band demos, albums, jingles, radio ads, and anything that would allow me to continue to invest in recording equipment. A good recording engineer and producer I became...however, a savvy profit driven business man I was not.
After selling Dusk I became a freelance engineer and full time musician, playing in and recording local bands. Out of that came my association with "Chris Loiter and the Hangouts" a local band that generated a bit of a following. I recorded an album for them and played in the band supporting the album. We were lucky enough to win a BAM magazine "Bammie" for Best Independent Album, but never quite landed that big label deal we were looking for.
Finally deciding that I needed to "settle down" and get a real job, I answered a tiny help wanted ad in the San Francisco Chronicle for a company looking for someone with "Audio Experience" to be a Technical Support Manager. The company was Digidesign and their breakthrough product was soon to be known the world over as "Pro Tools". I worked there for 14 years, starting out managing a small technical team of about 10 guys (all very talented musicians in their spare time), and ended up as the Worldwide VP of Technical Support and Services managing over 80 folks working all over the world. It was a wild ride, and without a doubt one of the most rewarding adventures in my musical journey.
Now I'm spending a bit more time on my own personal projects and that's what brings me to putting together this website. A place where I can post my music projects (currently the Uncle Funker project - more on that elsewhere on this site), some general music based ramblings and opinions, and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Welcome Aboard....Enjoy!
